Piñata by Leopoldo Gout

Image
GREETINGS STACK WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!! Piñata by Leopoldo Gout took me about 3 days to read. I want to thank NetGalley and Tor Nightfire for the eARC I received for an honest review.  Let's be honest here, I don't know how to begin this review. Not because it's bad. No. Hells no. It's a fucking great book! But because I found this book intimidating. It's not a thick book by any means, don't let page count worry you. No, it was because I know absolutely fucking nothing about Nahua culture. And I'd say I still don't know at least 94% of it. Shit, I didn't even try to sound out some of the words in the book, that is what an uncultured fuck I am. 😓😓 If that's so why was I interested in the story? You might be asking yourself and honestly, it's because two words stuck out to me PINATA and HORROR. And my b-horror-loving ass was like "Oh, hells yes, let's go!". Also, did you look at the amazing cover? As someone that read the book, let ...

The Pearl Hunter by Miya T. Beck

Greetings Stack Worms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today we look at The Pearl Hunter by Miya T. Beck. This title will be release February 7th. There is currently a sale happening at Barnes and Noble with 25% off preorders. There is one more day on the sale so if this book sounds interesting I'd get in on this preorder sale.  I enjoyed this book. I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads. Let's get into then!  First off... SPOILERS!!!! Duh... TRIGGER WARNINGS:  - Death  - Violence  - Grief  - Almost a forced wedding  - Blood  - Animal Death  Summary Time! I know we all hate this part right? I can imagine that some don't want the book spoiled for them but my summaries are way worse when I'm trying to be vague so spoiler filled it is.  Kai and Kishi are identical twins during a time when...this wasn't seen as a good thing. So, the two face discrimination not just as twins but as females that work. They don't really let this bother them since they have eac...

Nocturne by Alyssa Wees

GREETINGS STACK WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today we look at Nocturne by Alyssa Wees. This title will be released on February 21st. So, a month out from my birthday.  I want to say first and foremost that I loved this book. And I'm actually a bit nervous reviewing it. I don't know if I'll do the book justice or if the review will be classy enough. But I will do my best!  Firstly... SPOILERS...DUH! Trigger Warnings:   - Death - Some light violence - Prose (which apparently some people have problems with) - Blood (not much though)  - Death - Some mental health should be dealt with - One could say MC is suicidal near the end - Being sold  - Did I mention death?  I'll tell you now that this summary will probably be the most confusing I've ever done because I really just want you to go read it yourself. So, I've left out a few key details.  Let's begin:  Once Upon a Time there were 2 Godly brothers that decided to have a contest. Death, the older brother...

Upcoming Ebook Reads

GREETINGS STACK WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanted to give y'all a quick update of what I have been reading and will be reading in the near future. Ebook wise at least.  I recently got a few e-Arcs from Netgalley that I've got to read and review and those are:  Pinata by Leopoldo Gout  The Pearl Hunter by Miya T. Beck Nocturne by Alyssa Wees  I've already started Nocturne, just haven't gotten very far seeing as that day I planned to get ahead in it my cat became ill and I had to take him to the hospital. So, I've been monitoring and watching him ever since. He's getting better though and much quicker than I anticipated. Hopefully, I can start reading again Tuesday. Why? Because I work tomorrow, Sunday, and Monday.  But Nocturne is a relatively short book so I should have it done in about three days. Also, I am over halfway done with the Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi and I'll have that review up once I'm done.  Anyway, in case you didn't k...

Invasive Species by Karle Johnson

GREETINGS STACK WORMS!!!!!!!!!!! In two days I read Invasive Species by Karle Johnson. Which I thoroughly enjoyed! It was refreshing to have a country-esque setting without the stereotypical conservative beliefs. Yes, there is a person in there like that, but it is clearly shown to be in poor taste.  Let's get into it then:  TRIGGER WARNINGS:  - Graphic Violence  - Alt-right speech (only with one character) - Racist slurs  - Homophobic slurs - Profanity  - child death - werewolf corpses hitting the floor  - animal death - drugs  - nudity - sex I believe that's it. Now, to the worst part of my reviews, the summary.  SPOILERS....DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are first introduced to Cole Vaughn who goes about his night watch on a rather chilly night. Cole finds it so comfortable that he decides to take a bit longer at his duties than is necessary. In doing this though he winds up the first head on the kill coun...

Greetings Stack Worms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've missed you. Have you missed me? Wait, you haven't noticed I was gone? Rude! JK. I know I'm not funny.  Anyway, it's good to be writing again. I've been in kind of a slump since last May, sorry. But I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things.  Here is what I have planned so far:  January & February (Kaijuary is what I've coined it):  - The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi (my first Scalzi book). - Kaiju No. 8 vol. 1 (manga)  March 20 - June 21 (Twitterpated Spring) (I'll be reading indie romance): - Death Adder by Naomi Lucas  - A Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova  June 21 - Sept. 22nd (Summer of Animorphs)  I'll try to get at least get 4 books read during this time.  September 23rd - December 21st (Fantasy Fall):  - Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff  December 22nd (Cozy Winter Reads):  - The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden.  This list is subjec...
