The Deep by Rivers Solomon

GREETINGS STACK WORMS!! I finished The Deep Wednesday morning...and I was rather happy with it. The book was short but there was a lot to take in. Which I didn't mind, just took me a little time to parse things out.  The Deep is by Rivers Solomon, Daveed Diggs (yes, I think it's the Daveed Diggs), William Hutson, and Jonathan Snipes. That's a lot of co-authors. Before you ask, no, this isn't an anthology. Though I sort of thought it would be, but we only get about four past stories.  Let's get into it.  TRIGGER WARNINGS!!! - Light blood  - Some animal death (sharks, fish, octopi, etc) - Nakedness  - Evolution? For those assholes (u know who u r) There is definitely some representation here for POCs and LGBTQ+.  SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yetu is the wajinru's (type of mermaid) Historian. This means that she must carry 600+ years worth of wajinru past inside her brain. And seeing as Yetu seems to be on the spectrum this is sort of painful...

MEG: The Graphic Novel by J.S. Earls

Greetings Stack Worms!! First and foremost this graphic novel is an adaptation of the book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten. I know in the title I said by J.S. Earls and that's because he's the one that adapted the story to a comic script. I wasn't going to put all of that in the heading. The illustrator is Mike S. Miller.  I kind of have a strained relationship with this graphic novel. I had this preordered back in 2019, however, my preorder was canceled and I couldn't find it anywhere. Until, about late last year, when I found it on Amazon...and NOWHERE ELSE! I have no idea what happened. I couldn't find a reason why. The same thing happened to another graphic novel I wanted and I could only find it in one place as a used copy.  I wish I could find articles on why this happens and then I find it used. If it was the company going out of business then I don't think the books would be printed at all, so what gives?  Anyway, on to the review. I gave th...

TBR: August's Theme: VAMPIRES

GREETINGS STACK WORMS!!!!!! So, August's theme is Vampires. Why am I not saving it for September so I can add Empire of the Vampire? Because I already have something HUMONGOUS planned for September and October. Also, that's the year anniversary since I started doing monthly themed reads. I am both excited and scared for September and October reads. You'll see later.  Now, I sort of had a lot of reads planned for this month, but with September and October coming right on their heels I run the risk of burnout. So, I think I'm going to do like two books from this list:  - Necroscope by Brian Lumley - Space Vampires by Colin Wilson - Anno Dracula by Kim Newman  -  The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix - The Fell of Dark by Caleb Roehrig  - Once Burned by  Jeaniene Frost That's a lot, right? Right? 😁 I'm thinking for sure Necroscope and Space Vampires. If I have time left then I'll have to see what I'm feeling up to reading....

Fury of the Orcas by Hunter Shea

Greetings Stack Worms!  I just finished Fury of the Orcas...this morning! And, I um, have some mixed feelings about this book. They are mostly lukewarm feelings but at a point, I actually get physically mad. I didn't realize I was this mad about it until I started talking about it with my girlfriend. This book is Adult Animal Horror. Anyway, let's get the "boring" parts out of the way.  TRIGGER WARNING!!! - Animal death. Lots and LOTS of animal death.  - Gore  - Guts - Blood  - Swearing  - Drug usage  (pot) - War SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chet Clarke, a vet/marine biologist, who has dedicated his life to preserving the lives of orcas in capture is taken on a ride. Starting when an orca commits suicide by jumping the safety barrier between pool and audience seating. Rosario, an orca trainer (and Chet's girlfriend), has had it with orcas being captive and treated as entertainment. Chet and Rosario are unaware of just how much orca death they ...

Please, check it out?  Anyway, here are my new books:  - Carry On by Rainbow Rowell  - Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell - Universal Monsters #2 The Wolfman: Blood Moon Rising by Larry Mike Garmon (however, I'm probably going to trade it in for bookstore credit. This isn't what I paid for and I'm going to get a different edition later) - Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim - Twisted: Tainted Tales by Janine Pipe  - Trese Vol 1: Murder on Balete Drive by Budjette Tan - Ice Cream Man vol 6 by W. Maxwell Prince  That's all. TOODLES!  -Bug

Kill River by Cameron Roubique

Greetings Stack Worms!  I'm super tired, but I finished Kill River by Cameron Roubique and now it's time to get the review up. This book genre is YA/Horror.  TRIGGER WARNINGS! - Major Character Death - Gore - Dead bodies - Swearing  - Bugs SPOILERS! Duh!  Cyndi is a 13 year old, in the 80's who is obsessed with music and of course, her parents don't understand her. They think she's being antisocial and needs to get out more. Make friends. When she doesn't comply with their demands they send her to the dreaded SUMMER CAMP!!! This upsets Cyndi (rightfully so). She gets on the bus to Camp thinking she's going to have a boring summer. After what happens, I'm sure she would have preferred this. However, she quickly makes friends with three other teenagers, Brad, Zack, and Stacy.  Stacy and Cyndi promise to stick together seeing as they are the only two teenage girls at the camp. But after a week Brad and Zack end up getting into trouble, dragging Stacy with...

Book/Writing Update

Greetings Stack Worms!  I heard back about my submitted story and...rejected. That's okay though. I got some feedback, so I cleaned up the story and submitted it to a new anthology. This anthology is called Camp Horror from Blood Rites Horror (https://www.bloodriteshorror.com/)  there really isn't a theme, but all the stories need to be about LGBTQIA themes and characters; which fits perfectly for my gay Frankenstein story. *fingers crossed*  Currently, I'm reading Kill River by Cameron Roubique. I'm really liking the story so far; it gives me Sleepaway Camp vibes. Almost done. There are three installments in this series. I do have all three, if I finish the other three books I have planned, I'll read the second one. Here is the website if you want to look it up: https://yearofblood.com/ I did get some new reading material: Devil's Night by Curtis M. Lawson (signed)  https://www.weirdhousepress.com/product/devils-night/ Gearbreakers by Zoe Hana Mikut...

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Greetings Stack Worms!  I finished! I finished just in time for the end of June. Sadly, that means saying cheerio to PRIDE month.  Gideon the Ninth was NOT what I was expecting. I liked it though, gave it 4 stars on Goodreads. And like I said on there I mainly brought down the rating because of not being able to visualize what was being described sometimes. Also, the phrasing got a little too weird for me to follow, here and there.  Anyway, let's get the review started.  TRIGGER WARNING: - Death/MC Death - Gore - Blood - Language  - Abuse/Torture  - "Slavery" - More of an indentured servant SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are spoilers from this point on!!! Gideon, an orphan to the Ninth house, is trying to join the front lines. She wants to be far away from the dreaded place of Dreaburh, the Locked Tomb, and it's cruel Reverand Daughter, HarrowHark. But she is tricked into staying and ends up becoming Harrow's new Cavalier, after Harrow is calle...
