Monthly Book Box Subscriptions
Greetings Stack Worms!
Unboxing book boxes are extremely popular on Youtube. I really enjoy watching them myself. I'm subscribed to a few monthly "boxes" myself. I get Fairyloot, Illumicrate, Owlcrate, My Thrill Club, and Night Worms.
Fairyloot and Illumicrate are primarily UK based. They're about $45 if you get it month to month. Owlcrate is about $42 (m2m) and they're US based. These three mainly do YA books with really nice bookish items with the box. These often have exclusively designed books. They can be signed, or have fan art on the inside of the cover, different end pages, colored/stenciled edges (which as you know is the quickest way to make me buy a book), and differently colored covers.
My Thrill Club is about $19 (m2m). US based. Plus, you get more than one genre. You can pick between horror, mystery, thriller, and surprise me. Which is a mix of all three choices. Sometimes you get some candy or book marks in the book, but it's mostly just the two hardbacks and an ebook.
Night Worms is steeped in the horror genre and it's about $50 (m2m). There is usually more than one book. Sometimes there are exclusives and they can be paperback or hardcover or both. They come with some goodies such as coffee, tea, bookmarks, and stickers. Also, they rep indie horror authors, as well as famous authors and I love that.
Now, I usually get the month-2-month subscriptions, that way if I don't want a certain book (or not interested in the theme) I can skip that month. This helps me save money (and space in the stacks).
Are you subscribed to any monthly book boxes? Which one(s) are your favorite?
Out of the YA that I get, I think Fairyloot is my favorite. They consistently have really good exclusive books and themes for their boxes.
And for horror? This is difficult because My Thrill Club isn't very responsive when something goes wrong (which is why I had to unsubscribe to them this month since for some reason they aren't taking my payments even though nothing is wrong with my payment method), but I've loved all the books I've gotten so far. However, Night Worms does a lot of indie authors and I like that (especially, since I don't have to buy through Amazon to get them). But some of the books I've gotten I've been meh about, so there are pros and cons to each.
